Not the most typical day and time for a wedding, Resonance Quartet was engaged to play at the Church of The Nativity for Nicole’s Catholic wedding on a hot Tuesday afternoon. Other than the usual processional and recessional, we followed the program order closely as we played to specific events during the mass, such as the preparation of the altar and the communion.

Wedding at St Regis

One thing leads to another! Cathy, Rachel‘s cousin, engaged us for her wedding this July at the St Regis hotel. What’s unique about this engagement is that Wen Bin, our cellist and arranger, customised for string quartet, a set of Medieval music by Henry Tudor VIII. Cathy and Sandy have specially requested for “Greensleeves” to be arranged for their march-in, with the Tudors having a special meaning for them. They did a little Tudor dance while being accompanied with our playing of “Greensleeves”, to the warm smiles and applause from the guests of this cosy and intimate party.

Very sweet of the couple to send us an e-card after the wedding!

We kicked off June 2011 with 2 back-to-back wedding gigs. On 11 June, performed for David’s wedding cocktail reception at the Shangri-La Hotel.

The next day, the Resonance Quartet was at the Raffles Hotel performing for Brian’s wedding. The solemnisation ceremony was held outside the East India Rooms next to the water fountain, and we played as the procession and bride marched-in. We then shifted inside the banquet room where we played to the couple’s march-in, and then entertained the guests with 2 sets of music as they proceeded with their lunch.

Wedding at Grand Hyatt

Our very first engagement for 2011 was for Christine and Paul’s wedding. It has to be a good start to the year when we get an affirmative reply from our client:

Yes. I think you guys are AWESOME! Paul has a few favourite tunes. I’ll forward you the list when I get it off him and you can let us know if it’s ok to play them. If not then I’ll leave it to your good hands J

The wedding was held on a rooftop/poolside garden beside Oasis Restaurant at Grand Hyatt Singapore. A garden in the middle of bustling Orchard road.

Situated inside the pavilion, we played a set of music for the arriving guests, and Canon in D for the bridal march-in.

We then played another set as the guests mingled around for photos with the couple.

It was very nice of Christine to send us a few SMSes later to thank us, and also to post on our Facebook page! We wish her and Paul all the best as they settle back in Australia.

I think now my friends want a garden wedding with strings too. The whole day was such a party! Thanks for playing such a big role to that party. :)

Our first wedding gig for December brought us to the Swiss Club for Maria and Jengming’s wedding solemnisation and luncheon. We played a requested piece – Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, arranged by our cellist Wen-Bin – as the couple walked down the spiral stairs from the level above us, to the converted dining area that overlooks lush greenery.
